The US Ski Team J1, Junior World, and U23 World Championship Teams have been selected. Tyson Flaharty (APU) was the lone Alaskan man to qualify for the U23 World Championships by being one of the top five U23 skiers at the recently completed US Nationals in Houghton, Michigan. Tazlina Mannix (APU) was a discretionary choice for the women's U23 team based on her past results. Alaska will send two skiers to the World Junior Championships this year. Max Treinen (UAA) and Reese Hanneman (FAST) both qualified on the boy's side. Patrick Johnson (Middlebury) tied for the final spot on the team, but lost the tie-breaker to Kevin Cutts by a very narrow margin. Including Treinen, Hanneman, and Johnson, Alaska prqualified ten skiers for the Junior Nationals in Anchorage in March. The other prequalifiers were: Eric Packer, David Norris, Becca Rorabaugh, Amy Glen, Jaime Bronga, Caitlin Patterson, and Lauren Fritz. Alaska had a very strong showing in the J1 age group, claiming five of the 12 spots (top 6 boys and girls) on the Scandinavian Cup trip. For the boys, Eric Packer, David Norris, and Lex Treinen finished 1,3,4 respectively, while Amy Glen and Jaime Bronga finished fourth and fifth in the girls J1 division. Congratulations to all the Alaska skiers who put in a great showing at Nationals.
