2011 Regional Elite Group and Development Group Camps

The Regional Elite Group (REG) and Development Group Camps are a central element in Cross Country Alaska’s efforts to develop Alaska’s Junior skiers into world class athletes.  The camps are an excellent opportunity for Alaskan Junior skiers to develop their technical skills and train with other top skiers from across the state.  Both Camps feature top level training and instruction by US Ski Team Coach Bryan Fish.  The United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) participates in these CCAK development camps as an opportunity to identify up an coming elite Junior skiers from Alaska.

Camps are open by invitation only based on performance during this past season.  Criteria and Select Team lists are posted below (click on article title).  Alternates for the REG Camp are picked from the Development list in order.  The REG Camp will be July 14-19 at Hatcher Pass and Anchorage (schedule TBD).  Members of the Development Group are invited to an abbreviated camp July 18-21 in Anchorage.

History and information for US Development: USSA is designing a system to work in conjunction with local Division and clubs. In addition to your Regional clubs and programs at the Regional level, USSA has developed a pipeline for all Regions and clubs to participate in the US Development pipeline at a National level.  Both CCAK and USSA will be working together.
Starting with opportunities for J2′s.  The USSA National J2 training camp is an annual camp that is based solely off JO results.
Opportunities for J1 and young OJ’s is the REG (Regional Elite Group) Group.  Each Region has a performance based criteria to make this annual team.  The REG than feeds into the  NDG  (National Development Group) Based on Selection from the REG Groups up to 4 members of each region will be selected to participate in this group.  Ages of REG and NDG are primarily 16,17,18 year old athletes (with some exceptions).
For older Juniors and young seniors, the next level for national participation with USSA is the NTG.  These athletes are primarily 18,19,20.  To qualify for the NTG (National Training Group) is identified from the US Ski Team coaches.  Usually selection from the World Junior team participants and persons with top National results.
Next Step: The next step for the US model is the newly formed US D team, than the B and A teams.
Additional CCAK Alaska based Selection Groups:  In addition to the REG.  CCAK has implemented a PEG (Premier Elite Group) to capture the individuals of our top older Juniors and seniors and RDG (Regional Development Group) to capture our younger individuals and next tier to the REG.
There are many avenues to get to your goals.  Skiers are urged to work with their club coach to identify the best path for your success.  The US Ski Team urges this cooperation and will be working with your local club and coach if you should qualify for any of the National Development groups.
SUMMER 2011 Opportunities
Bryan Fish Development coach of the US Ski Team will be in attendance of both camps.  Alaska Premier athletes, ie: Kikkan Randal and the APU team will also be in attendance for some of the camp dates.

Notes:  In order to participate or be named you must be a member of USSA and an active participant of CCAK.More information will be posted here as it becomes available and additional details are finalized.
