  4. The National Weather Service live phone line is 458-3700.
  5. PLEASE NOTE that National Weather Service weather and temperatures for Fairbanks are taken at the Fairbanks International Airport.  Weather and temperatures may be very different at Birch Hill.  It is not uncommon, during periods of cold weather, to have a temperature at Birch Hill that is 15, 20 or even 25 Fahrenheit degrees warmer than the temperature at the airport.

    Important Notes:

    1. We would like to concentrate waxing in the Equipment Shed (heated) at the end of the access road and a nearby, 20’ x 40’ heated temporary building, and avoid using the Warming Hut as the primary building for waxing. Please be considerate of all users.
    2. Timing Building is off-limits to all unauthorized athletes and coaches. Permitted in the timing building are: Race Officials and Course Workers, Jury Members, and Medical Personnel
    3. The official notice boards are located directly southeast of and virtually adjacent to the Warming Hut. All official race announcements, start lists, result lists, etc. will be posted on these notice boards.
    4. Heated bathrooms are located in the Warming Hut
    5. In addition to the upper parking lot, diagonal parking is available between the exit from and entrance to the upper parking lot on the left (east) side of the access road as you enter Birch Hill. Parking is not permitted on the right side of the access road. Additional parking is available in the lower lot.
    6. Access to and from the Start and Finish areas will be strictly controlled. Skiers may access the start area ONLY by skiing behind the timing building from the area around the Warming Hut or by coming up from the waxing area in the equipment shed. Access from any other direction WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.
    7. Time of day is included on start lists. It is the competitor’s responsibility to get to the start area on time. Competitors should arrive in the start area approximately 10 minutes prior to the start.
    8. Dual start wands will be used. Skiers need to be ready to start, with their skis on, not less than 4 minutes prior to the start.
    9. There will be a public-address announcer throughout the days of the races, announcing the time of day, the number of the skier starting, calling skiers to the start, etc. Outdoor speakers are located throughout the stadium area and the "new this season" PA system’s sound quality is excellent.
    10. Skiers’ should leave their warmups at the start. The clothing will be ferried by race volunteers from the start to the finish. This clothing will be available in the finish area after the course is completed.
    11. Temperatures at Birch Hill are available 24 hours a day by calling 457-4837. This temperature has been consistent and quite accurate.
